PLEASE HELP// A magnificent whale whale shark feeds in the waters off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, accompanied by a manta ray foraging for food in these rich waters. The oceans sounding Mexico are home to an incredible abundance and diversity of marine life. Unfortunately commercial fisheries have depleted so much of these oceans, and it is now in the marine parks where future health of Mexico’s oceans rests.

Mexico’s marine protected areas, overseen and managed by the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) for the last twenty years, have served as a safe haven for whale sharks, manta rays and other vulnerable animals. But Mexico’s President Obrador has slashed the budget for CONANP by 75%, effectively defunding the commission! This decision would impact over 1.5 million Mexicans, especially vulnerable groups of indigenous people and rural/coastal communities, and threaten over 90 million hectares of natural protected areas! Please sign the petition at https://bit.ly/3fwizqR and tell President Obrador that he is making a mistake! And Thank You to everyone who has already signed and spread the word!
