After learning that the three, Florida land based shark fishing rules I helped put into place in 2019, were completely being ignored as well as not enforced by the FWC. For this endeavor, I partnered with Spencer Roberts of Fish Defender, who is bringing a unique, scientific, and policy-oriented approach to protecting marine wildlife across Florida and beyond. Their team were instrumental in passing the ban on shark fishing in Miami Beach, exposing FWC’s aquarium capture trade of endangered sharks and rays, and are pursuing a long-term strategy to hold government officials and agencies accountable for failing our wildlife.
